Essay and questions form part of Patterson's application for admission to the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy. Samuel D. Patterson, Jr., of Schuylkill Haven and Perkiomen Bridge, Pa., received an M.D. from Jefferson Medical College in 1856. He was probably the son of Samuel D.
